Inexpensive Hurricanes

I love hurricane vases!
They're gorgeous!
They are great for decorating your home or for using as a centerpiece for a special event.
But sometimes they can be a bit pricey.

So, I was thrilled the other day when I found out here how to make them for only $2.00!

All you need is a glass vase and candlestick from the Dollar Tree.

I used Gorilla Glue to glue the vase and the candestick together.

(This glue is found at many big box stores.)

While waiting for the glue to set, you can decide what you want to fill your hurricane(s) with.
I wanted moss balls in mine.
So, I decided to follow a tutorial I saw online about making moss balls out of newspaper (but I can't find it now to give that person credit!)

Anyway, they cost practically nothing!

Start with one page of newspaper (or more depending on how big of a moss ball you want), and crumple it into a ball.  Then tape it all over so it's a nice tight ball.

Then little by little, cover your newspaper ball with hot glue and stick your moss to the ball.
(Fake moss can be bought at most craft stores for pretty cheap.)

Once your ball is covered with moss, pack it all into a nice round ball using both your hands.
It should look something like this:

I made six moss balls so I could put three into each hurricane.

My fireplace is still a work in progress so I can't show the whole thing to you yet, but here are the hurricanes all cozy in their new spaces.

I love 'em.

It's good to remember that great decor doesn't always have to cost much.

These came out so well...stylish and chic and CHEAP! The combo of the three just makes my day, and I can tell it made yours. Love them. Love your clock more, but that's an envy issue. lol

This is a really pretty idea. I have been seeing several of these around blogland lately. I think I need to make me one :) Love the moss balls too.

They are so pretty. I like the twine you tied around them, too, nice touch.
