So I know I've already jumped the gun by decorating for fall when it's not really officially fall yet.
But I don't care because it makes me happy.
I've also started to decorate a bit early for Halloween now too.
That makes my kids happy.
I did two REALLY simple projects to dress up my ugly cute little mantle.
My first project I did was to make dead twigs.
I did this by simply breaking off some old twigs from a tree in the backyard, sticking them in a couple of vases I already had {just to make sure I had the look I wanted}, and then I stuck the twigs in a bucket and spray painted them black.
{With $1.00 black spray paint from Walmart of course!}
{As you can see, our garage is very busy with lots of projects.}
The second project I did was to make crow silhouette plates.
I bought two plates from Goodwill for $0.75 each.
Then I spray painted them with a glossy white spray paint.
AND GUESS WHAT???
DID YOU KNOW THAT HOME DEPOT SELLS $DOLLAR$ SPRAY PAINT TOO!!!
THEY DO, THEY DO, THEY DO!
I just discovered this a couple of days ago.
I didn't have time to run to both Walmart and Home Depot that particular day so I was just going to pick up some regular more expensive spray paint for this project.
As my eyes were scanning all the spray paints at Home Depot, trying to find a white gloss with the cheapest price tag, my eyes spotted this little guy all the way on the very bottom shelf.
I'm so excited to now know that there are two places I can buy cheap spray paint!
After spray painting both plates a glossy white, the next day I mod podged a silhouette of a little crow onto the middle of the plate.
I wanted two crows, each facing each other.
To do this, I cut two crows out and one of them I turned over to the white side and colored it all black with a sharpie.
It worked like a charm!
I really like how both of these projects turned out.
It looks like we're totally ready for Fall AND Halloween now... but yet it doesn't look creepy.
It's not going to scare my children one bit.
They think it's great!

Great job! I have been doing plate projects like that too! Looks great!
Looks very nice, Robin!
Super cute! I thought about spray painted branches too. In fact, I attempted this as a Charlie Brown Christmas tree a few years ago, but it looked more sad than chic...
Lovely! You did a wonderful job!
Fabulous! But you should have had me do the birds in vinyl- that would have been SO much easier than cutting them out! :) Can you come take care of my sad house? :)
SUPER cute! I'm not sure how I missed this one?? I usually catch all your posts. I am making the *trix-treats* for afterschool today - thanks again!
I must say I am SUPER STOKED that Home Depot has $1 spray paint.. R & I were spray painting fools this weekend with various projects for the downstairs. It's been the "catch all" room for awhile. Ugh. I had a moment the other day where I thought, "These tasks/projects WILL be done in like...hmmm the next 25 years?" ha ha
Love it! The simplicity makes it seem extra spooky. Spotted you at the Creative Chick Parade.
This looks lovely!
